The students of fire science completed a vehicle rescue practice. First in the exercise they had to determine if the scene was safe to begin work. Once the scene is safe, they begin stabilizing the vehicle. The position of the vehicle and patient are important factors in determining how to stabilize the vehicle.
Once the vehicle was stabilized, students were able to complete the roof removal. Students used hydraulic cutters to cut at the vehicles posts. The number of posts depends upon the kind of vehicle. For example, the vehicle involved in this practice was a sedan with 4 posts allowing for students to make 4 cuts.
The final extraction completed was to the doors. In order to remove the doors, students attached a webbing tool around the door. This webbing tool was vital to this extraction process because it held the door back so students could easily access the areas to make the cuts.
