Students of fire science attended the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI). This trip gave students the opportunity to train at a high level in skills such as vehicle fires, basement fire, and using the hose while on ladder.
On the second day, students covered basement fire. This practice involves 2 people feeding the hose into the burn building while the others were inside extinguishing the fire. This is a glimpse of what you could see from the window as the fire began to build and create smoke coming out of the windows.
As heavy as the hose can be from the ground, it only gets heavier when trying to operate it from heights. This practice helped students get comfortable with not only the weight of the hose but also the skill itself because when a real fire comes around every second matters so you need to make sure you are working at an efficient pace.
