The Culinary Students made homemade whoopie pies. Students started out with sugar, shortening (an alternative to butter), and egg yolk. These ingredients were put into a large bowl where they were mixed with an electric hand mixer until it reached a light and fluffy consistency.
In order to make the cookie batter students had to mix a variety of dry ingredients. These ingredients include baking soda, baking powder, vanilla , and salt. This mixture eventually gets added in with shortening mixture and milk to create the cookie batter.
While still mixing the ingredients students prepared the oven at a temperature of 350 degrees. By the time the oven was preheating the batter was ready to be moved to a greased cookie sheet. For this step, students scooped out spoonful’s of batter and placed them apart. Once the oven was preheated the cookies got placed in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes.
