Automotive Students completed a tire removal. The purpose of this tire removal was to be able to examine the vehicle’s rotor discs. The following steps were performed to remove the tire…
- Raise the vehicle on the car Lift
- Use a lug nut wrench to remove the lug nuts
- Carefully remove the tire from the vehicle
After these steps, students were able began the rotor disc examination.
Rotor Discs play a vital role in a vehicle’s braking system. Once you press the brake the pads of the brake compress against the discs creating friction to make the car stop. If your rotor discs are not in good condition it can affect your car’s ability to properly come to a stop.
Once examining the rotor disc, students used an electronic digital caliper. The purpose of this tool is to help make accurate measurements of the width and depth. If the measurements show the disc isn’t thick enough then your vehicle will need new rotor discs.
