In the Agricultural Program at CCST, Students tend to various animals. One of the animals frequently taken care of is a Broiler Chicken, also known as a Meat Chicken. These chickens are essential to meat production and are sent to the butcher between 9-12 weeks old.
These are two of the Agricultural Sciences Broiler Chickens. As you can see, these chickens have fewer feathers. The reason is that they don’t live as long, and feathers aren’t as necessary for protection, considering they get processed early.
The Broiler Chickens are eating out of the feeders provided by the Agricultural Science Students. These chickens are traditionally fed a mix of corn and soybean. A quick fun fact: two-thirds of the feed is corn.
Due to the extreme heat throughout the weeks, Agricultural Science covered the coup by adding a sheet blanket, preventing the heat from getting in. Inside the coop, they also had feeders, water, and fans.
