Agricultural Science: Building a Coop
About Hailey J.
A couple years back I attended my first viscom through Cecil College. One of the classes I attended was for Photography. I had no experience and had never picked up a camera prior but I knew I enjoyed it. Not long after I got my first camera and tried to learn what I could on my own. The Summer of Junior Year came around and my mom asked if I was interested in CCST. After that day I began to look into it and came across Interactive Media and knew I wanted to see what it was about. With the Education from this Program I want to work in the field of Graphic Design while trying to do Photography on the side.

Capstone Idea
For my Capstone Project I want to implement Photography and Graphic Design. I plan to involve other programs by doing pictures and films of there projects. After editing I would interview people from the classes to be able to write about there assignments. This Capstone will also be used as a way to promote marketing and media for the school.
Update #1 (9-27-23)
For my Capstone Project, I have taken Photos of different programs around the school. After I take the Photos, I create mini stories about what the program is working on. This is a great way to see what goes on outside of Interactive Media but it also helps to enhance marketing for the school.
Update #2 (10-13-23)
Recently I have been finishing up stories and publishing them on to the website. If you go into the News Section you’ll see Automotive, Diesel, Nursing, Cosmetology, Fire Science, and Agricultural Science with Construction Trades. I Plan to touch up my Culinary Story and work to have it published by early next week.
Update #3 (10-26-23)
For my Capstone, I have been scheduling posts for Fire Science, Nursing, Cosmetology, etc. I have also taken photos for Agricultural Science during their most recent lab. Their lab involved extracting DNA from strawberries, bananas, and blueberries.
Update #4 (11-17-23)
Lately there hasn’t been as many photo opportunities so it’s given me the opportunity to catch up on posting photo stories. The latest stories posted have been Fire Science, AG Science with construction and many more.
Update #5 (11-21-23)
Today we visited Cosmetology, IT, and Culinary. We took photos and I also learned Videography. I plan to edit and write photo stories after break.
Update #6 (11-30-23)
My Capstone has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow in my knowledge of Photography, Journalism, and more recently videography. As stressful as a year long project originally sounded it is a lot of fun and a great experience to gain confidence in the field. As Positive of an experience as its been the one negative is if you get piled up on work and a new opportunity comes along then your work piles up. As hard as it as, it’s so crucial to try to stay on top of the editing and stories. In terms of strengths, I believe that I’ve always been pretty good at writing but this project helped me to improve even more. One area I want to improve on is videography. I’ve done it a few times for about 3 classes so I didn’t have too much prior knowledge but I would love to learn more to advance my skills.
Update #7 (1-22-24)
Capstone has been a lot of fun for me. Not only do I get to approve upon my trades but I also get to see the work that goes into the other trades. One of the positives with this year long project is you have multiple opportunities for growth. If my photos don’t turn out as I hoped I try to remind myself there will be plenty more opportunities to try again for another program. One of the negatives with a year long project is keeping up with the workload. As nice as down time can be with these kinds of projects you are consistently going to have new project opportunities. The positive from this heavy workload is that prepares for the real world and entering the work force. An area I’d like to improve on is my communication between the teacher/student so I can better understand the work that goes in the other programs. With the knowledge of what students are working on this will not only give me a better understanding but also help me write my photo stories. Something I think I have improved on is my Journalism. In the beginning of the year I constantly was using phrases like “In this Picture” which didn’t make my stories sound strong. Luckily I have refrained from the use of that phrase and have noticed a tremendous improvement in my photo stories.
Update #8 (2-29-24)
I have really enjoyed my capstone so far. I really enjoy photography so I’m super glad I got to implement it into my capstone. I was unsure about the photo stories at first but I’ve enjoyed doing those and getting to learn about other programs. A positive of this year long project is that it has given me a variety of opportunities to do photography. My favorite experience so far this year was going with fire science to the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. A negative of capstone being a year long project is that it can be really tiring because there is always something that needs to be done whether it be photo stories or more photos. As I’ve said before, I really think this capstone has helped me with my writing which has helped my stories continuously improve.
Update #9 (3-25-24)
Capstone has went well so far. One positive of Capstone is that has helped me learn to come out of my shell with new people. Although this skill doesn’t have anything to do with photography and journalism I know it will be a helpful skill for my future. One negative of Capstone is that it constantly moves so it can be hard to stay on top of it as the work load increases. As hard this may seem, in the end it is great preparation for the real world. One area I believe I have improved on is my journalism. I’ve tried to expand on the ways I explain the photos as well as the diction. This has really helped by stories grow and interest more viewers.
Update #10 (5-9-24)
Throughout the school year, I was fortunate to have a variety of photo opportunities. With each photo opportunity, I continued to grow in a various of aspects of the field and in the assignment itself. Like every tasks, it came with its up and downs. One of the harder aspects of this capstone was that the lighting in all the classrooms is inconsistent. One room may have settings that work so well but may not carry over in a different classroom. The upside of this capstone was that I was working in an area of the field I really enjoy. So even on days I maybe didn’t feel like taking photos it always fun because I enjoy photography.
